Dmc 5 Review Embargo
First tweet read as follows:'Happy that no genuine review has been under 89% so far.' Naturally some folks picked up on the genuine part and asked for clarification.' I was referring to some reviews where the writer hasn't received review code and not even played the game. 'Genuine review = one where the reviewer has actually played the game. Sometimes people make up reviews without actually playing the game.
'We haven't been able to locate any fake reviews online, but perhaps Ninja Theory are countering some of the negative attention the new Dante has been getting.Anyway, expect the online review embargo to lift next week ahead of the release.
Devil May Cry 5 feels super good its story is pretty damn good the gameplay is one the absolute best you'll find in all of gaming and the same could be said about the graphics! The only con that I have with the game is that it ended too early!! I wanna say THANK YOU VERY MUCH CAPCOM from bring DMC NACK!! Capcom has released 2 masterpieces this year! It is very, VERY rare that a game is able to out shine it's predecessors, especially a game like DMC which has a game base spanning back to the PS2 days, but this in my opinion is the best in the series so far. The combat is slick, the story is great, Dante is exactly how you expect Dante to be years after DMC 3/4, there is just no aspect of the game that hasn't been improved on. Capcom are doing a great job at the moment with both their remakes (Resi 2) and new games (this). The game is very well optimised on PC, no signs of a generic 'PC port' and actually feels like they put in effort in for the PC community. Fans of the series will feel right at home, new players may be a little confused at first, but I am sure YouTube by now has a 'everything you need to know before playing DMC5' or something to catch you right up.
All in all I highly recommend the game to anyone who is a fan of the genre, this is definitely going to be a GOTY contender for 2019. Devil May Cry 5 is the most beautiful game in the series! The stroy is simple, but interesting.
The combat system is great and exciting, specially the new character V; but it could get a little confusing at first! The game even has 2 endings!

The game has a lot to offer and you'll enjoy playing it even for the second run! In one word, DmC5 is worth your time and money! DMC 5 has come to receive the throne of hack and slash genre back. In addition to beautiful graphics and a smooth gameplay the game also offers a good storyline with it, which is a thing a lot of DMC fans would like to see since the older games has a little insufficient storyline.
Yet the producers has fixed this factor game by game. There are some surprises in the game which will make you DMC 5 has come to receive the throne of hack and slash genre back. There are some surprises in the game which will make you even more curious and addictive to the game. DMC 5 deserves at least a 9 point in my opinion and every hack and slash lover must try it.
Back in 2002 when i finally got my PS2 (took a while to save up money as a 13/14 year old) Devil May Cry was first game i got for it, been psyched about it for a year and was one of the main motivators for me to get a PS2 in the first place. As i suspected when i finally played it DMC was everything i hoped for, and it instantly skyrocketed to the top of my favorite games list. Bar DMC2 Back in 2002 when i finally got my PS2 (took a while to save up money as a 13/14 year old) Devil May Cry was first game i got for it, been psyched about it for a year and was one of the main motivators for me to get a PS2 in the first place. As i suspected when i finally played it DMC was everything i hoped for, and it instantly skyrocketed to the top of my favorite games list. Bar DMC2 which was a 'slight' disappointment, DMC games always held a special place in my mind. DMC reboot wasn't a bad game, on the contrary it was pretty good, alas it was not what fans wanted and what we waited for.
I'm glad to say DMC5 is a return to form for Capcom and for DMC franchise, all the main characters are back with a vengeance, and i can honestly say that the game is everything i've been hoping for from a new main line DMC sequel. Graphics 10/10 Not much to say here, RE engine looks incredible, game seems well optimized, and it ran great on my system (Ryzen 2600X, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080, at 3440x1440), only small gripe i had was that game doesn't support ultra-wide (atm) so i had 2 grey bars on the sides of the monitor.
Audio: 9/10 OST is as expected great, game's main anthem Devil Trigger, which is also Nero's battle music is a departure from usual heavy metal songs. But it fits Nero much better imho. Rest of the soundtrack especially Dante's battle theme are more in line with older OSTs. DMC3 OST still stands as best in the series for me, 5 isn't far tho. Played with English dub, and voice actors did great work, not much else to say, there are some scenes where lip sync doesn't sync very well, but luckily it doesn't detract much from game, and it's doesn't happen very often.
Gameplay 10/10 Nailed it, and nailed it so much. Everything just 'feels' right, way Nero and Dante control is just like i remember from old games, and any veterans returning should feel right at home in DMC5. V is a fresh take on combat in DMC where he doesn't fight directly, Instead you control his 'pets'.
It's weird at the start but you get used to it, altho i quickly found a way to cheat my way to SSS with him and it's rather easy to pull off. Story 9/10 I'm rating it within 'DMC sphere' of storytelling, anyone who played older DMCs knows that DMC story can be weird to say the least, like a fun B movie. And that's fine, DMC never took itself very seriously and DMC5 is no exception.
If you are new just relax don't engage your brain too much and enjoy the ride. Overall I loved every second of new DMC, I'm gonna play higher difficulties now, and hunt some achievements.
And here's hoping Capcom makes a proper DMC6 in a couple years and we don't have to wait 10+ years for a new mainline DMC again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.Amazing game. Gorgeous graphics, exciting OST, fluid combat mechanics and kind of unlimited(?) combo potentials. Have always been a fan of the DMC series.
Although I am not very skillful, I always enjoy spending time hack and slash my way to infinite devil trigger mode, and for all achievements in later games in the series. The reason I marked it down by 1 is because I am a little bit unsatisfied with the weapons/combat, characters and story. Despite all the complains in the below, I am still gonna go for DMC6 in the future lolololol. Weapons/Combat(Nero): Interesting twist with the devil breakers. Is it just me or is the game constantly giving out mega busters? I had like 8 of them in stock after one play through while the others have like 2-3. I broke devil breakers from time to time for more stylish points but it seems to me that capcom is dishing out a lot of mega busters for me.
Anyway, the skill set of Nero did not change much and I still suck at Max act/Exceed. Just Nero being Nero. Weapons/combat(Dante): I have always loved seeing Dante showing off/trying out his newly obtained weapon. In DMC5, 2 new melee weapons? Nunchuck is not even that new coz it appeared in DMC3. I like the Bruce Lee sound Dante is making tho. The motorbike is a slow (grinding?) weapon.
Slow weapon is just not my type. It's a hack and slash game. What do you expect? If it is a slow weapon, I would like it to be impactful like the gauntlets. Not the mention the Rebellion/Sparda evolved into Devil Sword Dante fked up the Sowrdmaster move set.
Of course it is stronger this way, I can land extra hits with O/B while doing my normal combos. But the home run move is gone which made me sad. Luckily I can change back to Rebellion after endgame.
For ranged weapons, only the usual guns without weird. like Pandora's box? That just made me reluctant to upgrade Gunslinger. Maybe because Pandora's box was too OP? But I do think Dr. Faust is a nice idea for players to farm red orbs more easily. And I think Royalguard is the most OP style now, just because of the royal revenge.
Vergil dodges your SM combo but got wrecked by RG. Weapons/combat(V): For me, this is the most boring character. Interesting idea of adding different play style. Need to hold the controller in a weird way for micromanaging Shadow and Griffin, lock on and read a book from afar. Not the most comforting gaming experience for my right hand. Going in for last hits occasionally. Can easily get high stylish points compare with other 2 characters coz low risk of being hit.
The battles are so far away that I can't really feel it. Playing as V is like a subject that you are doing well naturally but you have no interest in it. Characters: DMC series has been trying to make characters looks badass. Mostly by main characters taunting bosses before boss fights, inhuman/stylish combats moves against enemies during cut scenes, etc. But I think DMC5 has gone a bit too much for over emphasizing 'coolness' in places where characters could be acting normally. The whole poetry reading from V is getting on my nerves.
I don't know whether there is a deeper meaning to this but I certainly think he is more like 'acting cool' than 'being cool'. On the other hand, the characters grew old in a way that is not very pleasing. I mean you can see them growing from teens/young adults in DMC3 to mature adults in DMC4, especially Dante, Vergil and Lady. In DMC5, Dante went from playful adult to a drunk street beggar look. Vergil was a handsome man (no homo) and now he is like a grumpy, gloomy bastard.
I guess Lady is kinda alright. Trish was hot from DMC1-4 but she is looking like an aunt right now. And where the fk is Kyrie? Not in a single fking cut scene? Only voice during phone calls? What the fk is wrong with you game designers?
Budget cut of sth? And why is Nico suddenly popping up out of nowhere?
Story: Didn't explain how Vergil got back from hell. How the hell did Vergil had a son Nero? Like Dante said, it's kinda expected when Nero and Yamato reacted in DMC4. But no explanations of what was going on in hell with Vergil?
Did he fked a succubus or sth so Nero is like 75% demon and stronger than him? Nero just awaken his potential right before final boss fight with will power? Not getting beaten up and end up in a bad situation with sword pierces through chest? So the 'apple' just fixed Vergil? He was like crippling and falling apart, he separated himself, causing big ass troubles, ate an apple, recombine, then he is good to go. What happens to the supreme power from apple that made Mundus the king of hell?
All in all, Vergil just life stealing from normal humans for healing? And Dante decided to forgive him at the end because Vergil is not taking over the world? Not that I really mind the somewhat typical/lame story lines and endings from all DMC games.
I am just here for some hack and slash. But there are just a lot of things unexplained. Devil May Cry 5 is the most beautiful game in the series! The stroy is simple, but interesting. I can't overstate how beautiful this game looks. They took all the best parts of earlier releases and made a spectacular game in the best DMC tradition. The tutorial is incredibly well done. There's even a 'The Void' practice zone whenever you learn a new move (you can even try out all the moves before you decide on the upgrade for your character, so it is accessible between missions and when you get upgrades). Said another way, you won't be prone to forget a huge list of combos. It is as incremental as you want it to be. If your're new to the series, you get new moves as you progress in the game.
Inside the gameplay, even beginners will soon see how to mix moves together. This makes the game an absolute joy to play. Speaking of which, the combat system is great. There are different settings for beginners to advanced players. Some settings even let the game do combos for you if you physically can't do the combinations of button presses.
I do find turning around or changing direction a bit jerky, but I guess they wanted the controls to be very responsive rather than have smooth transitions during quick change of directions. This only happens when you completely change direction, so no big deal. There are a lot of cutscenes. So if you're not a fan of that, it may be annoying. But that's always been a staple of DMC games. The bosses are interesting. They're not just boss #1, #2, etc.
Well, at least the ones I've seen so far. The characters are of course very dismissive of any opponent they defeat because that's their shtick. As others have said, story is simple and yet keeps you intrigued. I do like the various characters and personalities. This part is extremely well done. Overall, it's fairly linear.
There are secret areas and secret mission that you should try to find throughout though. The games runs very smoothly on 1440p with everything maxed out. Then again, I have 1800X + 1080Ti. The game does not fill ultra widescreen (3440x1440).
You just get black bars on the side. Note that it does widescreen just fine. Having said that, I'm reading there is an unofficial ultrawide fix available that I'm gonna try right now. Can't recommend this game enough! 35.0 hrs on record After playing this game to completion as soon as it became available I can safely say that Devil May Cry 5 is one of the best in the series, and one of the best games I have played in general. Everything from the controls and combat to the characters and story are superb. The visuals and environments are also beautiful with many of the textures looking photo-realistic.

Thank you Capcom for bringing this series back with such a strong entry and thank you Hideaki Itsuno for being one of the brightest minds in the entire gaming industry. Simply the Best Franchise Game. The story is very well told, the characters are super charismatic.
The songs are extraordinary. The controls respond well. The combat is more frenzied and now there is the possibility of changing your style during the gameplay, not having to choose as in Devil May Cry 3. The camera can be a bit problematic at times, but nothing that compromises the game.

Left a taste of want more. Let's wait and see! I once had a lot of trouble figuring which DMC was 'The Best'. I was very inclined to say DMC 3. Then DmC by Ninja Theory appeared. And showed a VERY different take on the characters and overall style to the game.
It was not a bad game, but not great either. The characters were. Awfully done (from my pov). But now.

This deserves being played on all difficulty levels!

All you who said, that this game is short and easy. No, you have no idea, how DMC-games are meant to play. You finish the game, and then you play on higher difficulty. More gameplay, more rewards and more challenge. I already have 56 hours played, on this game.
And i'm not even finished this totally. I have still much to do.
For short words. This game, is a must buy for everyone. A well rounded hack-and-slash DMC style game (duh) with the perfect combination of fairly easy to play but a challenge to master. Gameplay is dynamic with many options and well though-out. On top of that RE engine looks incredible AND it runs extremely well. Bravo Capcom.

Also I feel like the music was just ok, there was a lot of room for improvement Even with the flaws, it will be a defining game for not only the DMC series but the genre as well. It's just a great sequel to an action game franchise that improves and expands on the formula.

However, the camera needs more work. Devil may cry 4 had multiple camera modes and i'd like to see a return of those. No 21:9 or arbitrary resolution support. Some more graphical options would be really appreciated too. The coop sections are really cool but only 2 missions really use that feature and it's impossible to train coop combos reliably. More levels would be my priority after Bloody Palace and more playable characters.
Dmc 5 Review Embargo Video
There's no cancerous walking segment or tons of cutscenes to screw your pace over BUT i would like some missions to have faster checkpoints and reload times. Mission 19 and 20 shouldn't have a checkpoint option. And it shouldn't have the cutscene replay if you select restart mission.
Other stuff also appreciated would be native PS4 Controller support on PC, like Yakuza has so far. I would also like the void to be a bit more refined. I would recommend the team to look at trainers available for previous games to see what players really want to use. One huge bug that has cropped up is that force quits or game crashes corrupts and deletes your saves, including all your golden orbs from logins and stylish appraisals. This is a huge bug that made me replay the campaign 2 more times.
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. Bloody Palace will be out April 1st so let's see if that's any good. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.Capcom, you've outdone yourselves. Ok first off, this is a TRUE sequel and it isn't bad like a certain reboot, looking at you Ninja Theory. Well jokes aside, this is one of, if not the, best entry in the Devil May Cry series. The story is excellent, characters just feel right, the combat system is smooth.
There really isn't much to complain on this game. The only thing I personally would nitpick on is Vergil's facial structure, he looks a little derpy and the dubstep music. But even so, this is not just a game, it feels like true fan-service from Capcom. The dubstep music is only used for combat with Nero, BUT if you feel like you want an old soundtrack from the older dmc games, then you can do just that. Devil May Cry 5 offers a new way to play Nero with a mechanical arm he loses early on in the game and at first i wasn't convinced but during mid-game i was kind of digging it to be honest.
All the arms have different abilities and ultimates and varies the gameplay. At first I was a bit concerned about how Capcom was going to handle the playable characters in a way that feels natural, but they happily surprised me.
Verdict & TL-DR: Graphics: 10/10 Gameplay: 9,5/10 Story: 10/10 Characters: 9/10 Music: 9/10 This is the long awaited and theorized DMC game that all the fans have gotten and it lived up to the hype, Graphics are the best they've ever been in DMC without even having a big impact on performance all thanks to the RE Engine. Gameplay was even better that I thought it would be, the story was fantastic, the characters felt right and although i didn't like the dubstep battle music, there was an option to change that and the soundtracks were epic.
Replay = yes. This is the Devil May Cry game fans have been waiting 11 years for (14 if you're like me and didn't like DMC4). Capcom's REngine has done a beautiful job bringing the characters and the setting into the current gen, and I think looks even better than many if not most other AAA titles at this time.

Capcom's REngine has done a beautiful job bringing the characters and the setting into the current gen, and I think looks even better than many if not most other AAA titles at this time. The soundtrack departs a bit from the metal we're used to from 1-3, and adds a bit more of a pop-ish tone, which caught me off guard but does ultimately work and ends up making it very catchy. 5 improves GREATLY upon 4 by restoring Dante and the Sparda family story to the forefront of the main plot, and ironed out a lot of my major gripes about Nero as a character, namely his somewhat whiney and borderline angsty personality. He seems to get a lot more close to how Dante was in DMC3, though not quite as flippant, which is fine, he is his own character.
Like with every DMC proper title this game is easy to learn but difficult to master. The first two difficulties are fine for beginners and/or casual play, then the more experienced/skilled can enjoy more challenge with the later difficulties, which really do start living up to their names (Dante must Die/Hell and Hell). The multiplayer element, which is totally new to the series with this title, is thankfully not in your face. There's fairly minimal interaction with other players, you may see them from across the level, or in one particular mission very briefly fight alongside them, or you can turn this feature off entirely if you just want a pure solo experience. Though you will miss out on some chances for gold orbs if you do that, which can be useful. My only complaint is a personal one and really has no impact on the value of the game, so I won't reflect it in my score. My one complaint is that one particular character does not get enough screen/story time for my liking.
The way he was used was executed well and is properly paced for the story, but I just didn't get enough of him. Hopefully more will be added as the game ages, maybe DLC including this character if 5 follows any of previous game trends.fingers crossed. + Good variation of bosses + The interaction between the characters is very good and often funny + Dante is overpower + Beautiful graphics + The cutscenes are simply sensational + The end of the game is incredible + Soundtrack makes you excited in the fighting + The game is linear but has several hidden areas to explore. Things that made me lower the rating: - The game camera sometimes hides the character behind some obstacle and this breaks the fluidity of combat. The deluxe version of the game has additional content that also changes in gameplay (and changes a lot). In RE2 remake Capcom made available free DLCs but in Devil May Cry 5 Capcom recalled their times of stinginess with completely unnecessary but not mandatory microtransactions, the purpose of which is buy orbes to get the skills faster or revive for example. Controls Feel Okay however for some things you might want to re-bind some buttons for higher level of play. Story was never the strongest point of Devil May Cry Games however this game's story is good enough, it has better flow than DMC4 for sure however do consider that this game is created mainly with action in mind, the narrative is also very good. With that being said it is designed around its combat and it is replayable, the total gametime is 8 hours give or take however the game can be further enjoyed on additional playthroughs. The combat in game feels dynamic and urges players to have that playful spirit when they first get into it, it is designed with diversity in mind and players will have fun experimenting with its gimmicks and fun combinations of combos, it is simple yet very fun and has depth. The game can be easily enjoyed by both hardcore and casual players.
The game offers a variety of difficulties, players are also rewarded for mixing their moves in a variety instead of spamming, they are encouraged to do so by the Style System which in some cases has functions besides simply score which creates some dynamic. Considering that this game is a Love Letter for the Series' fans, it does justice on that regard. The Game's Negatives could be considered the repetitive nature of the maps and probably some parts of the Story, if the player is new the game does take care of showing what has happened in the story thus far however it is not ideal and it basically is simply moving text on the screen which can be hard to read for slow readers. Overall the game is Worth giving it a shot and is recommended for anyone to play!
Devil May Cry 5 I can't say the last time I had this much fun with an action game. The visuals are top notch, and on a level you'd expect from a fast-paced hack & slash games.Characters in the main focus are simply fun and interesting, although the side characters got really small amounts of 'screen time'.

Upgrade system is a bit wonky and broad, which is a caliber you'd expect from a DMC game. Controls do feel a bit overcrowded at times, but are trumped by a sheer pleasure from landing a blow from any of offered abilities from your arsenal. Story itself is sub-par when compared to the rest of the game, but still good and interesting even though the ending didn't rise up to the expectations. But I do get they have to plan these things out openly considering it's a strong franchise with a dedicated fan-base.
Among the sea of lack-luster and disappointing titles. This is a game I will surely replay. RE Engine strikes again, mixing incredible visuals with flawless performance. The visuals, performance, gameplay and audio were all great, the only real negative were the characters.
I found V insufferable and Nico very annoying, her accent and personality just grated on me. Lady and Trish barely did anything other than get naked and get slapped around off camera so added very little. RE Engine strikes again, mixing incredible visuals with flawless performance. They clearly can make quality game then why took all these years to make good games such as these? You make good games like this and people will buy. Everything beautiful in this game from the combat to the design to the main menu to the soundtracks. Lots of customization to your character and you can even customize the music that are going to be played in certain situation how cool is that. The negatives about this game is that there are not much to its world design nor atmosphere variations. I wish the chapters were more different in design and had more variety like different weather and maybe forests etc. Also the game is super liner just straight forward.
It could have done it better with a bit bigger areas to walk around and explore a bit. All in all WELL DONE! Waiting for more games from you Capcom hope you keep the quality gaming alive! DMC5 is a unapologetic love letter to action games that marks a return of the classic action genre franchise to the spotlight, delivering a thrilling, action packed and emotional sequel to the franchise many thought was doomed to ostracism. Devil May Cry has always been a franchise plagued by mismanagement with as many ups such as DMC3 and DMC1 and downs like DMC4 and DMC2, the root of DMC5 is a unapologetic love letter to action games that marks a return of the classic action genre franchise to the spotlight, delivering a thrilling, action packed and emotional sequel to the franchise many thought was doomed to ostracism. Devil May Cry has always been a franchise plagued by mismanagement with as many ups such as DMC3 and DMC1 and downs like DMC4 and DMC2, the root of the problem being Capcoms troubling management issues such as Hideaki Itsuno having to help salvage DMC2 four months before release, DMC4 terrible asset flips to overshadow yet another deadline issues all while having no concrete idea of the future plans for the franchise that after DMC1 could have reached for the skies and yet came to a failed reboot in 2013.
None of the issues above plagues DMC5 which makes it the first Devil may cry game in decades to have a clear concise, emotional story with hilarious scenes, over the top action, emotional cutscenes all while still keeping the flamboyish corky style that made the series popular and iconic, all of this coupled with an incredible throwback gameplay that builds upon DMC4 and DMC3 while still inovating and adding tons of gameplay dynamics makes DMC5 the Ultimate Devil May Cry experience and yet another Capcom sucess in recent years. Completed the HD collection 99/99 and fan of the series since the PS2 era This game is incredible. There are no drawbacks.

But a lil advice. If you know nothing about the franchise, go and watch a video or read the canon. You could miss something if you're unfamiliar to DMC. And, the lore is rushed as hell, this is the climax of the series, that's why you have to understand what happened before.
All i can say is that CAPCOM is destroying its rivals doing what they should be doing. RE2 remake was amazing. Now this masterpiece called DMC5. And just one freaking month separates both games. Both made by the same company. Learn from this EA, ACTIVISION and BETHESDA. We know very well how to recognize extremely good games from the crap you are presenting us.

Trying to sell us outdated graphics and lame stories as a AAA game. Learn from CAPCOM. I love the game so far, even though Devil Hunter (Normal) is kinda easy compared to previous games, later difficulties like Son of Sparda get really hellish, comparing to the nightmare that was Devil May Cry 3's Dante Must Die, which was full of powered up enemies and better AI that standard difficulties. The controls are just beautiful, pretty responsive, and all combos/special moves are really satisfying to pull off, i even thought that playing with keyboard felt great (most action games like this leave keyboard as an afterthought and focus on improving controls with normal Playstation, Generic USB or XBOX controllers) and i love the fact that this game has full support for switch pro controller (which in my opinion is one of the best controllers ever made). The game runs at a stable 60+ FPS with high settings & 720p on an outdated Intel I5 & a Nvidia GTX 1050, which means almost every current computer can run the game at a stable framerate on lower settings.
The only things that bring the game down for me are the lack of turbo mode, Denuvo and the fact that we don't play as the new character 'V' that much. All in all one of the best, if not the best Devil May Cry games.
The culmination of the franchise and so much more. Love of my life sheet music pdf. Capcom is still putting up the pressure one notch above, with new mechanics, a renewed gameplay, and a replayability that will make you start the game a second time without losing your smile. The story has matured and a good balance has been found with its three destinies that intersect over the course of the missions, until its apocalyptic final.
Only big downside in a game that requires precision in its highest difficulty levels: the camera problems and the targeting system.
