So you want to be a hero, eh? This guide is meant to illustrate what I consider to be the best build for Fallout 2, due to the intrinsically flawed SPECIAL system and the way the game’s structured, the best build is what’s commonly termed the Dipl. Son of a fucking bitch, but this game's UI sucks mad ass.So, I haven't even gotten past the motherfucking first temple. I'm banging my head against a wall trying to get the second door unlocked. It's hard as shit to see anything with these shitty graphics and right-clicks register about half the time. This assumes, of course, that I'm able to even get to the game's loading screen. That's strange, because I thought that was exactly true, you can open it with pretty much any skill level. Are you entirely sure you've not unlocked it already, and you might just need to click it again to open it? IIRC the unlocking and actual opening are separate commands.Sorry to hear about these annoyances, because the meat of the game is so much better than this opening tutorial.e: wait a second.

I think there is a FIRST first door that you can just click to open and is not locked. Did you try maybe right-clicking for menu options? Hex, I just gave your suggestion a shot. The door has a broken lock and I'm failing to unlock it.

For a minute, I thought I might have been unlocking it and then locking it back (somehow). But that appears not to be the case.To make sure that we're talking about the same door, it's the first locked door (second door once you've entered the dungeon).

The room south of the locked door has a huge-ass scorpion and if you go east right before you get to the door, you'll come to a large room with a separating wall and three scorpions. There's also a pile of bones that contain a spear, metal rod and something else.Gendou, I've installed MegaMod 2.44. How did you build your character?

A crit-focused sniper can basically destroy any enemy coming once it gets good weapons. It also has the benefit of high luck which makes your situation easier to pass, I think (been a while) and you get to see all the wild, weird shit they programmed into the wastes.Google the proper set up for that if you want tips. And, prepare for a lot of similar frustration. The writing in F2 is some of the best ever, but the game is a buggy mess. Worth fighting through, bust frustrating as all hell. Bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch, I'm trying to run a +decade-old game on a modern system and am having issues, that means the game sucks, waaaaaaah. Are you using the GoG edition, designed to run on modern systems? Did you even patch the game? Did you start a thread asking GESC how to ensure you had a smooth and trouble free experience before you bodged in yourself, cocked the lot of it up, then promtly proceeded to march in here and shit all over one of the most respected titles to ever grace this community because you lacked the mental capacity to manage software from the 90's?

Woops, I guess not. Did you even attempt to search for one of the many threads on that very topic?

I play BG2 about once every two years and it gives me zero fucking lip, so it's not about the age of the game.Correct. The problem here is you, Digitali.

The rest of us can run Fallout 2 just fine.PS - Don't bother with the mods or unofficial patches. Some will introduce new bugs/complications of their own. Keep it simple and just play the damn as is. Besides, if you couldn't even figure out how to work a walkthrough, asking you to install a patch/mod is probably a bit much.PPS - I'm just going to leave here. I have a feeling that we're going to need it.PPPS - FFS, Digi. Mythar-It's working fine. Jakal's a female, so I should've expected -20% approval on my post.Damn, Jakal, calm down. Most of my post was hyperbole (which I thought was obvious, especially with the 'choking browser thing').

However, since I think that trying the GoG version sounds like a great idea, I will not let myself cry with the hurt that you've just delivered to my sensitive heart. You hurt the ones you love most. Also, nice shot with the tire-changing thing. I didn't see that coming which makes it all the more great. Thanks for a nice laugh on Monday morning.

One point in each attrib, except for strength and luck. Tagged skills are small weapons, sneak and speech.

Perk is sex appeal (I like to play as a chick in my RPGs, shut up.)You'll miss out on a lot of dialog with such low int and charisma and you won't get many skill points at level up. Higher agility would also help with more AP. I'd tag lockpick over sneak for reasons you've already identified. There are a LOT of locked doors and containers in this game.Yeah, but you get awesome NEW dialog! Everyone should play a moron in the first two fallouts, at least once. Before Fallout 3 came out I set up the original on an old Pentium 266 I still happened to have, running Windows 98. It ran great!

I wanted to get a feeling for the game, but I didn't want to get stuck at some point and have my interest wane because it was too much trouble to figure it out, so I followed a walkthrough. This worked out pretty well with Fallout 1, because the game was open, but not enough to where you couldn't easily get back on track with the guide after having a little fun off the beaten path.I didn't have so much luck with Fallout 2. For whatever reason (I can't remember now for sure), I couldn't really follow the guide and still go off and do my own thing. Actually I do remember that there was a trick to get power armor early, and somehow I had already missed the opportunity. I was already invested too much in the game to start over, and my nostalgia kick didn't have enough juice left to warrant finishing or a redo.Maybe I'll try it off GoG someday. As always, there's a degree of truth to my luls and/or being an ass, and that bit of my post was srs bsns. I can't say for sure what GoG does to the code, but I can say that I haven't had an issue running a single one of GoG's releases on Win7, Fallout 2 included. You know what they say about anecdotes, though, so nevermind that bit. However, on of that, we have, which does in fact recode the engine to enhance functionality and compatibility. So there you have it.Fallout 2's UI might be an issue for some. The graphics quality might be an issue for others, namely those who are pud-pulling idiotfaces with no taste. A mentally-deficient minority may even have trouble with the 'puzzles,' and I use that term loosely.

Utterly despicable as all of the above sorts may be, I can still find it in my heart to understand and forgive them, albeit at times only after I've run their homes over with a monster truck. However, difficulty getting the damn game to run is not a valid complaint. It's been many years since I played Fallout 2.

But my impression was that NPC's were just annoying because that would give you more satisfaction in causing them to die in imaginiatory ways. The pick pocket skill allows you to manage an NPC's inventory, but you must save the game first and reload for each failed attempt because NPC's consider pick pocketing as agressive.I don't recall spears as being spent, so if strategy allows, you could pick up a trown spear and pick pocket an NPC to give it to it.Personally I just purchased sticks of dynamite with a clock timer, set it to 5 minutes, and placed it in annoying NPC's inventory. You don't loose faction if someone suddendly explodes after a success full pick pocket.

The pick pocket skill allows you to manage an NPC's inventory, but you must save the game first and reload for each failed attempt because NPC's consider pick pocketing as agressive. If you are referring to companions, you don't have to pickpocket them. One of the dialog choices lets you 'trade' with them and you can manage their inventory that way. All Sulik ever got from me was a sledgehammer and maybe leather armor. But you may mean something else by NPC. I'm not sure. It's been a long day already. Oh, I just meant anyone that is not the player character. But yes, I forgot the trade thing, that is obviously the correct way to deal with NPC's that is your 'friend'.edit:IMHO, much of the charm was that Fallout 1 and 2 weren't fair to begin with, but you could later marry a man and shoot up 2 headed cows called Bhramin (the latter caused it to be banned in India).I never completed the game, but I think I will repurchase it just because of the super mutant who challenged me to arm wrestling. Loosing caused an hour long game advancement time and your inventory to have a 'biting ball'.

I never completed the game, but I think I will repurchase it just because of the super mutant who challenged me to arm wrestling. Loosing caused an hour long game advancement time and your inventory to have a 'biting ball'.IIRC you had to have a strength of 9 or 10 to avoid the ball gag. I could never do it.

The boxing minigame was a lot of fun too.I ran with the idea that it could be a dice roll.50 times of being anal raped by a supermutant. Uh, lets not mention it again.-@Semion:After the time requirement patch came to Fallout1, I believe I more or less killed any NPC just out of spite. Obviously after using an Uzi on all the Brahmins first. I summon: keeper of the, guardian of the, spirit of the to smite the unbeliever for their heresy.Seriously though, Fallout's was definitely built with the hardcore turn-based RPG player in mind. It's not tactical like, so it can be frustrating when your begin derping around into your line of sight.

This was by design. You're not supposed to control them directly (as they're just along for the ride). I will concede that is kind of broken. I think the best way to approach companions is to configure them ranged, aggressive/defensive stance, and absolutely-don't-hit-me burst. I do wish that combat felt more dynamic, instead of lining up like British Militia to fire of volleys.Aaaannyway.good luck Digitali! I tried to kick off a new game of Fallout 2 a couple months ago, but got distracted by shiny things after a not long.

Perhaps you'll have better luck.-mhac³. I installed Fallout 1 with TeamX's v1.35 patch and the v3.06 High Resolution patch. I want to play vanilla, so no content modifiers for me, but would you recommend me anything else? I knew about sfall, but its sourceforge download page mentions only Fallout2, which makes me wary.

If it does go with Fallout 1 too, I was wondering if it played nice with the high resolution pack. Also, for future playthroughs, what mods/patches would you recommend for the first game? Please doinclude complete overhauls and content restoration in this case.
