After 2 months of the initial, Samsung now quietly roll out ICS 4.0.4 globally. I was a bit surprised when I saw the update notification, because I just got the information the 4.0.4 update would be roll out gradually.Apparently, immediately after releasing the ICS update for AT&T’s version Galaxy Note on July 11, Samsung also pushed out the ICS 4.0.4 update for Galaxy Note users in German. And today, more regions including most European countries and Asian countries get the Android ICS 4.0.4 update for Galaxy Note.Hopefully, this update will solve some of the. Now, all Galaxy Note users are expecting the next major update for Jelly Bean (Android 4.1). The information we have is that Galaxy Note and S3 will get the Jelly Bean update, probably in Q1 2013. Also, the coming Galaxy Note 2 (with ICS pre-installed, not Jelly Bean) will be very likely announced in the IFA 2012 (August 31-Sept.
5) and start to shipping in November (roughly one year after the release date for Galaxy Note). So, hopefully, in the Q1 of 2013, both Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2 will get the Jelly Bean (4.1) update.Anyway, today’s minor update (from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4) is about 100MB. So, please try to download through WiFi or Kies if your mobile data is very limited.Any questions? Please post the in the comments section below or in the.
It is not necessary to be panic. This is probably just another normal security flaw (file permissions) discovered. Microsoft receives hundreds of such reports (usually far more critical) everyday: Apple receives handful such reports everyday. If it is critical, Samsung will issue a hot-fix through OTA/Kies, I believe.Usually, such threats are exaggerated. It is a possible security hole, but most app developers (who do not have low-level programming knowledge) don’t even know how to utilize such flaws. Of course, some malicious developers may distribute such nasty apps. The recommendation is to get apps from reputable developers. That is complicated.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Manual
You may have to pay some fees ($10-$20) to get it the code from some third parties. Some handphone shops may have such service. Samsung service center can also do this, but it can be expensive.
Also, Samsung does not have international warranty, your local Samsung service center may charge you even more. Please do NOT try any code if you are not sure.If you have any experience of rooting Android phones, you can follow this guide (it is free, but you need follow the instructions to unroot the phone first):. Samsung is slow in releasing android OS upgrade, and is even slower in releasing the needed user manuals. Samsung’s web site in US continued to show only the original Feb 2012 version of Galaxy Note user manual throughout the May ICS 4.0.3 upgrade and July 4.0.4 upgrade. Finally, Samsung web site released on 9/10/2012 a new user manual that is back dated to 7/13/2012 (apparently the 4.0.4 date).
The new user manual has 273 pages (much bigger than the 223 pages of the original version). The printed user manual is available on ebay for those who want a physical book at hand. Very likely, it is due to the unstable mobile networ. For Kies, you can:1). Download Kies from Samsung website:2). Install it on your PC.3). Start the installed Samsung Kies (Start–All Programs–Samsung–Kies–Samsung Kies4).
Check for update for Kies itself (Help–check for update). Update the Kies if needed.5). Connect your Galaxy Note to the PC using the USB cable provided by Samsung6). Usually it will pop up update info for you. If not, in Kies, go to Tools–Firmware upgrade and initialization7). Follow the on-screen instruction to finish the update. Please help mePROBLEM:I had format my galaxy note after updating it to android 4.03After formatting my galaxy, many of the application cannot be disabled and when disabling them and reboot the phone, they begin starting again like maps and voice searchalso after formatting my phone, there are some problems like delay in the animation ( slow animation ) when opening or switching between application,so what i have to do???( i already formatted it using three different methods but the performance is the same ( slow animation ) )please help me.
Samsung use TouchWiz for all of their Android phones, except Nexus, which always use vanilla UI to give users “Google” experience.Long history short, in the early days, Android UI is so ugly, all manufacturers (Samsung, Moto, HTC, LG, Sony)try to give their phones sexy dresses. Now, such sexy dresses become funny and boring compared with the improved native UI.
However, most manufacturers still continue to use their own UI to “differentiate” (does not necessarily means better ) their products from others. TouchWiz is just an example, a bad example. The good thing is that you can always install a new launcher to cover (you cannot disable unless you flash your phone with something else)the TouchWiz. Im writing from the Philippines.I received an update to 4.0.4 via OTA for the last 3 weeks, been trying to update it and even thru kies but always saying “Failed to Update Firmware.”In OTA, the firmware finished downloading and when it reboot, the green robot’s blue meter only ends up at around 10% and will reboot again normally and a pop up will appear saying failed to update.Im so tired of this, and when i tried kies, when it finished downloading the firmware for almost an hour, and after my phone reboot, it stucked on the Green Robot logo, saying “Downloading. Don’t disconnect” and its just there for an hour. If you rooted your phone, sometimes, the update cannot go through. If not, forget it.Back up your data to a safe location. Note the update from GB to ICS can take a few hours. Please first make sure the version of the Kies on your PC is: 2.3.2.12074.13 (Help–check for update).
Then, connect your Galaxy Note to the PC with an USB cable. In Kies (on your PC), go to Tools–Firmware upgrade and initialization.
Follow the instructions. If it still fails, you can try Tools–Emergency firmware recovery. Follow the instructions. If it fails again, you probably have to visit local Samsung service center. The guys there should be able to update it for you. Hi, I live in Indonesia. I tried to do the firmware update to 4.0.4 from the official 4.0.3 using OTA. I tried several times downloading using wifi and GSM.
In all occasion, download was successful and the phone rebooted itself, but then it says “failed to update firmware and try using Kies”.I tried connecting to Kies, but it never tell me that there is a new update availableNow I am stuck in 4.0.3 and really don’t know what to do next to officially upgrade it to 4.0.4. Could you give me any advice?Thank you very much. Thanks for your quick response GN, I don’t think self-rebooting could be due to applications, because I had purchased a SII in Sept 2011, it came with 2.3.3 (INDIA), and after upgrading it to 2.3.6 in January 2012 I faced the self-rebooting problem at least 7-10 times a day – that too on a completely clean install with NO external applications installed on it. I also faced no signal or very, very poor signal issues, and poor or no wifi connectivity issues as well.
The Service Centre was unable to help rectify the issue & ultimately I ended up purchasing the Note.So I am a little apprehensive since I read a few upgraders have posted that they are facing similar issues I faced after upgrading their Note to 4.04. My Note is still on GB 2.3.6 (DDLC1 – India) at present, and apart from facing a screen changing subtle hues of pink-blue-green issue visible on a white background (this problem too the service centre is unable to comprehend), the rest of it is working quite stably. So I am in a quandry – TO UPGRADE – OR NOT TO UPGRADE – THAT IS THE QUESTION!!!! Any advice or posting from yourself or any other upgraders would be most welcome and thanked. Very likely, it is caused by the mobile network settings, not the ICS itself. You cna go to Settings–More—Mobile networks.
Make sure “Use packet data” is checked, and data roaming is NOT checked. Network mode should be GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode). If all settings are correct, the problem is then caused by your APN settings. You need check with your service provider on APN settings (usually they post the settings on their website, or you can call the service hotline), because different different carriers have different settings.
(You may press Access Point names to review your settings.). Hi!I’m from Philippines and I recently updated my GN to ICS 4.0.3. I tried to update it again via OTA with a total update size of 86MB. During installation, it suddenly rebooted and prompt me that it fails to update to ICS 4.0.4. I tried to update it a lot of times and it resulted to the same failure.Kies, however is not working in my PC for such a reason that I don’t know. Now, is there anyone here who can give me some advice or perhaps a decent explanation on why this update always result to failure? Thanks!Freud. I’ve found out that “No data connection” and “No or unknown signal” stop counting when i have data plan activated. Also i forgot to mention in my first post here: i have all bars in signal in 2G/3G mode, those 2 things are shown in BBS.My SIM was used in my ex 2 phones: iPhone 4 and 4S without any problems and the adapter i got from my carrier store. At the moment i read something about CSC and the eligibility to get a future update. I dialed.#272.IMEI# and a pops up a screen with following information:PreconfigSales Code XEFAt the bottom of the page i get 2 options:Install and Cancel.
What should i do?Thank you very much. It seems your SIM card may have some problems. Maybe your area has no signal for that operator, or the network type is not supported (unlikely).Did you check with the operator? If this just happened the first time, you may just reboot your phone. You may also check the network settings, Settings–Wireless and network–more–Mobile networks, you may try to set network mode to GSM/WDMA (auto mode). You may also check whether you can set the operator Settings–Wireless and network–more–Network operators. Factory reset only wipe your settings and apps. You can also enable Automatic restore (settings–backup and reset) if you want to automatically re-install the apps (from Google Play store only).
Settings will go back to factory default. It is safe, but you may lose some data. So backup before doing this.2).No. You are still on ICS after the factory reset. Reset means reset your ICS. (actually, there are no direct ways to go back to GB)3).Not sure.
Usually, there are no problems.ken says. Hi sire thank you so much for the informative answer.More inquiries.
Its been almost a day observing my galaxy note for issues, my observations were:1) Dark Red outline sometimes2) Initially, sometimes it tells that “unfortunately, twlauncher stopped” then i can’t use it, had to reset by holding power button for sec. (12 hours not occuring anymore)Are you familiar with these isssues sire, can you give me an idea whats causing this and a possible conservative interventions.
=).Galaxy Note says. Thank you for sharing us your solution for the issue.Magnet may affect some sensors, but usually it should be negligible because the magnetic field usually is quite weak. Actually, the Nexus 7 even has a hidden magnetic sensor, possibly for future usage or for a smart cover). For micro sd card, both class 4 and 10 work with Galaxy Note. For mobile phones, the class is not so important.
Of course, higher class means faster (class 10 means at least 10MB/s, class 4 means at least 4MB/s), but most of us just use the external SD card to store files, the speed is not so critical. Even for shooting photos, the Galaxy Note is quite slow in image processing, and the camera sensor is not as fast as that in S3 (and HTC One X), so the slowness cannot be solved by a faster SD card. Usually class 4 and above is sufficient for HD video recording.Anyway, it depends on your budget and whether you get the best value from capacity or performance.norison says. It looks your phone works properly, and you should not have battery issues.
Most of the time, you just look at the difference between screen on and awake. In your case, only 10 mins difference in last 23.5 hours. Also, you can find your phone was in deep sleep mode for almost 22 hours in last 23.5 hours (you are using the phone for 1.5 hours).
This is a good sign that your phone works properly.Your phone was not connected to mobile network for 59min 23s. Maybe your mobile network coverage is not good.
It was not caused by any apps.selly says. If you got message “your device doesn’t support software upgrading via Kies”, your phone will NOT get any updates. The only official way to update your phone is heading to local Samsung’s servcie center. They can update for you I believe. The reason you get this message is usually one of the following:1). Your phone has a CSC code of KOR2). Your CSC code does not match the installed firmware.
This can be messed up by some vendors or some parallel importers.3). Computer issues. You may try to uninstall Kies and then re-install the latest version.mustafa says.
I have a galaxy note free (not freeded), and I still wait the upgrade (in Argentina too). That make me think that the problem come from Samsung and not from the local phone providers. My updates are not comming from them and I have 2.6 (working good for me, but a multi-task switcher will be apreciated)Anyway, the world problems with ICS make me think if I suld do the upgrade or not. The announcement of the 4.1 for the note make me happy.
I feel a little discrimination (I hope I mistaken that) but i wish the oportunity to decide what to do. The phone was tooooo expensive in my cantry (about 1000 dolars).Hope we will have lucky and Samsung will make us say ” I choose the correct device with Samsung on the middle”GL to all.
Hi Everyone!!! I purchased a brand new SGS2 i9100 about a week ago and have been having slow download speeds since then! I also have an iphone and have been comparing the speeds by switching my sim card between phones. The average speeds for data in my area with my cellphone provider (Movistar) are 1100kbps Down and 400kbps UpThe iphone always gets 400kbps-1200kbps Down and 200kbps-500kbps UpThe SGS2 always gets 30kbps-120kbps Down and 200kbps-500kbps UpThis issue has been bugging me ever since I bought the phone. I'm new to the forum but well versed when it comes to the nuts 'n' bolts of the binary world. And to help you, we need to eliminate some possible reasons as to why you experience this problem.First off; What kind of software are you using to measure the download/upload speed? Are you using the same App for both phones?
If not this could be the culprit. To measure download/upload speed, most apps uses a server somewhere to download/upload a dummy file to determine the speed. If the test methods are different for your phones, then the results are not comparable. Lets say the Iphone uses one server to get the dummy file and your SGSII uses another, there could be differences. The network will be as fast as the weakest link in the chain of network accessed.Rule this out before you continue. My two cents.Morten. Click to expand. My first thought is that your firmware, 2.3.4, is very old by current standards.
Gingerbread is now on 2.3.6 and, of course, ICS has been released. Both of these contain newer, and faster, modems. If you were rooted, I would be recommending that you flash the latest ICS modem to your phone, (modems are not firmware dependent).Since there is no ICS firmware release for Venezula, as yet, I'm wondering if the Argentinian, Moviestar, ICS firmware might be compatible for you.You could flash the above firmware via Odin, as described in post#1,.The Argentinian, Moviestar, firmware for ICS, LPJ, is available for download,.This will, of course, void your warranty and is not without risk.

Hey guys so the solution to my problem. I decided to post this back here so if someone ever faces a similar issue, they can solve it.In my case the data speed problem was solved by was flashing to this specific ICS: I9100XWLPDNEELP4NordicAndroid4.0.3Of course, if you are in a different country or different carrier, then you'll have to try different ics versions.I tried 6 other different versions and that's the one that helped. My phone is getting now 2mbps down and 700kbps up. (I know that's nothing compared to the speeds you get in other countries, but is a hell lot better than what I got before)Many thanks to user ' ironass' for helping me out with my issue. Without him i'd probably never fixed this. He gets all the credit for this solution.
